A Dangerous Man marks Seagal’s first film for the year 2010. It’s also his 35th feature film, and his 21st straight to dvd release. I feel the need to point this out, as the movie itself provides no interest whatsoever. Well, that’s a lie. I’m just pissed off as it could have been a Seagal classic, but a boring an pointless second act and bland villains kills it.

This movie opens strong. We learn that Seagal has spent the last 15 years in jail for a crime he didn’t commit. He’s now out, and pissed off.  After a failed mugging he decides hit the road and start a new life in the country. He reaches a small town where he witness two Mexicans killing a state trooper. Seagal steps in and… well nuff said. Seagal and a Russian teenager named Sergey (Jesse Hutch) find’s a girl and cash in the Mexicans boot. We learn that the girl (Jackie) was part of an illegal diamond sale that went wrong. She was taken hostage and her father was pay a ransom to the Mexican mafia. The make matter worst the local police are in on it as well. Act one is packed tight full of action and plot. We’re even treated to a James Bond-que opening sequences that establishes all the main characters. So… now let’s go to the massive waste of time also known as the second act. NOTHING HAPPENS. The villains talk, and talk, and talk and talk. BUT NOTHING HAPPENS! Seriously if you want to watch this film I’d suggest at 33.50 you skip to 56.40 as your going to miss NOTHING. NOTHING HAPPENS! The bad guys talk about goodness knows what? The lead villain in the film is Byron Mann. You might remember him as Sunti who was Seagal’s highly charismatic side kick in Belly of the Beast (2003). None of this charisma transfers into this role. Byron Mann is a good actor, he’s just not good in this role. In fact all the bad guys barely register any interest; on the flip side the good guys are highly likable.

Seagal and Jackie (Jeanettea Antonio) join back with Sergey and his father (Jerry Wasserman). They get a shit load of guns and they take down the bad guys. The third act is good, but can’t make up for the second one.

“… and to answer the second part of your question, I want you dead”.

This is the third Seagal movie to be produced by Voltage Pictures. All in all I’m impressed with they’re work. They clearly like Seagal and understand what the fans want to see. What I like most is there classic Seagal dialogue such as “I’m going to fuck you up so badly you mumma wont recognize you or your coffin” I’ve sprinkled some quotable throughout the review. Also this seems to be one of the few d2dvd Seagal film that he hasn’t been redubbed by an actor that sounds nothing like him.

“I just got out of prison for something I didn’t, and before that I used to study real hard. I learnt all different ways to kill mother fuckers like you”.

This film is surprisingly violent. Seagal fans haven’t seen anything this graphic since Out for Justice (1991). (He is also sporting the same bandanna look) There are scenes in which Seagal literary beats people to death with his bear hands. If you’re a Seagal fan you will know that 90% of his moves are this reflecting hand technique (I don’t know the official name of it). He mixed up his fighting more so than usual. He even pulls out his rarely seen “Seagal Power Kick”. On top of that he barely touches a gun – which is a good thing. There is nothing worst than watching a film that stars someone know for there fighting ablities and they spend the entire film with a gun. Anyone can fire a gun, only Seagal can grab that gun, release the barrel and beat a man to death with the jiggered end (as demonstrated in the failed mugging in act one).

“we’ve checked you past, you were special forces. Some one took this guy apart”

My hat goes off to the production designer as the film was set I (I assume) the midwest of American but was really shot in Russia. You wouldn’t be able. I knew this before I saw the movie and I even had doubts

A Dangerous Man (2010) is for fans only. I’d suggest renting before buying.
